The break-in period refers to the time it takes for your body to adjust to a new mattress, or topper — and for the mattress materials to settle and perform as intended.
For most mattresses, this period is about 2 to 4 weeks. During this time:
The foam or springs will start to soften slightly and conform better to your body.
Your body also adapts to the new support and feel, especially if you're switching from a very different mattress.
Any initial firmness or unfamiliar sensation usually fades as everything adjusts. It's similar to breaking in a new pair of shoes — a little time and use helps everything feel just right!
